HISTORY

The Reading & Columbia Railroad was chartered in 1857 and completed in 1864. It provided connections from Jersey City (New York area) and Philadelphia, through Reading and Landisville to Columbia, where connections were made to Baltimore and points south and west. The line was operated by the Philadelphia & Reading and merged into the Reading Company in 1945. In 1976, in became part of Conrail. In 1981, the through route between Reading and Columbia was severed. A short portion was acquired by Amherst Industries in 1982. The line was operated as the Landisville Railroad starting in 1985 and became the Landisville Terminal & Transfer Company on January 1, 2001.
